Hecks Farmhouse, Somerset
HAs anyone tried the top 2? Im very much surprised that I've never even heard of the 2 (apparently) best ciders in Britain! Three Counties perry has been recognised by the Italians as a thing of great beauty and wonder, so cider and perry will be sold at the market which occurs on the first Sunday of every month. Mr Orchard is alternating with Tom Oliver (Chairman of the Three Counties Cider and Perry Association) who's perrys are superb. I hope to be at the market in July.

Yes i'll be going tomorrow, I got the email and have saved your number so we'll give you a call. Should be there about 12-ish, any idea where you'll be first of all? Shame neither team has got much to play for, if only you hadn't equalised against Hull you could have set up a classic.
I shall be buying my £325 blindfold next week

the drinks where brought to us in bottles and had a code on them , and we didnt know which cider perry it was, we were not blind folded !!, altho i here bristol city fc are giving away blindfolds with season tickets for next season. gents did you get my mobile number , ring/txt me if youre going footy sat.
judged approx 24 ciders/perries and drank about 9 halfs of various ciders tried Upton dry which was ok .

Did you have to blind taste ALL of them?? There was about 130 wasn't there? Bloody hell.
Im not sure about this blind tasting thing... If all the judges are blind-folded then no-one would see if a sneaky Welshman swapped the samples around! That must have been how they won.
I heard that about the Apple Tree too, I thought i heard it was being knocked down. We went straight past on our cider-crawl saturday, i wanted to go in, but was out-voted 30 to 1.

I went to Reading beer fest tasted a few different cider & perries but not any from wales , well not knowingly .
cos later i got collared into judging which was blind tasting , most of the cider/perry tasted was ok and nothing stood out. tasted about 24 in total most were sweet and not to my liking (Tastebuds)like
Med to Dry ,
others who travelled from Bristol were Rich Walters And Don Stevenson who also judged and had same comments to say about the cider/perry.
Bad news i learnt that day was that the Apple tree in bemmy looks set to close after the landlord is to leave . so make the most of the gem while you can. |

I know, I know, cider making has got to be encouraged wherever it takes place, but its just annoying (and luckily very rare) when the Welsh beat us at something!
Wish i'd known you were selling cider in Corn Street last week, we were only down the road from that at one point watching the football while drinking crap lager. A bottle of Perry would have gone down very nicely. I didn't even know the Slow Food market came to Bristol - is that a regular thing? We have a Farmers Market there every Wednesday.

I hope I’m not ostracised for this… apparently cider making in Wales had all but died out for several decades, but has only very recently been taken up again with great success by several enthusiasts:
http://www.welshcider.co.uk/ who ought to be encouraged. Like us, they’re trying to bring about a renaissance in cider making and appreciation.
By the way, I was in Brissel last Sunday, selling cider in Corn Street, in the Slow Food market, where we met several knowledgeable and appreciative cider drinkers (including a few Nailsea residents). We did very well and the draught perry went down a storm. I hope to be back in a few weeks. I’ll let you know.

Doing a bit more research, it turns out Ralph's 3B is WELSH! The second Welsh winner in 2 years!! Another part of the Camra website lists a different top 3, and also have the top 3 Perries where the winner is also Welsh!

Gillian Williams eh? Sounds a bit Welsh to me. I reckon the entire judging committee must be from the other side of the bridge. I shall have to track down some of this stuff and judge for myself.
