Posted - 22/09/2006 : 10:51:32 HENRY: I LOVE THE LIVERPOOL FANS Paul Rogers 22 September 2006
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has revealed his affection for Liverpool Football Club and the club's world famous supporters in an astonishing new interview. Despite playing for one of Liverpool's biggest rivals, Anfield has always afforded the French international a warm reception in appreciation of his sublime skills and now it seems the feeling is mutual. The chance to see Henry play in the red of Liverpool rather than the red and white of Arsenal might have gone now but that hasn't stopped the striker admitting he's dreamt about what it would have been like to be one of the Kop's idols. "I could never play for another English club after spending so long at Arsenal but, maybe, if there could ever have been another team, it would be Liverpool," he said at the launch of 'Impact Art', a charity which looks after seriously ill young adults. "I say them because I would have loved to play with Steven Gerrard and then also I love their fans. "There is something special about Anfield which is amazing and, when I see The Kop with their scarves in the air, singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone', that is awesome."

Posted - 25/09/2006 : 13:14:30 I think the intelligence of Liverpool fans was brilliantly summed up by letter sent into Zoo Weekley a month or so back.
Two men in a bookies were discussing Ken Bates claim that Chelsea were tryin to tap-up the Leeds youngsters. One said 'Ye I heard Ken Bates wants penalties at Chelsea'
Which some moron in a Liverpool shirt poked his head over and said 'No way, Lamps will still ave 'um'. |

Posted - 22/09/2006 : 16:03:40 fair enough, im shocked to see that arsenal are one of the most hated teams by rival supporters! considering we have the worlds best player! it doesnt suprise me liverpool are at the top i think most people in the country still remember that champions league final night when i think every english football fan (even smithy ) became a scouser for one night only!! |

Posted - 22/09/2006 : 12:50:53 I can't believe your using quotes Taylor and Mardonna as evidence of how knowledgeable Liverpool fans are!
Taylor mangaed to make England rubbish, and has done nothing in the game since, except of course boring millions to sleep with his 'insightful' commentry on 5 live.
As for Maradonna, great player that he was (great cheat also!), his mind is now so screwed, following too much drugs, that I'm surprised he knows what planet he's on!!
If Liverpool fans were so clever, surely they'd realise that they are a one man team!
3-0, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0,!!!!! |

What about Borussia Dortmund & Celtic? They have an anthem a lot like it.
Yeah, but we were the first. Anyway when it gets covered it's never as good. Just look at the mess the Germans made of the Three Lions song.
Smithy - Can you back up your ranting with evidence? At least i've provided evidence to show what people really think of Liverpool and it's fans, and it's pretty conclusive! |

For that I admire Liverpool more than anything."

However, I think we should stop preaching to less the fortunate and just except that we can’t all be privileged enough to have experienced supporting the world greatest football club!
Smithy who are you playing in the UEFA cup next week? Should be a sell out! |

Posted - 22/09/2006 : 12:11:32 Heres some more comments on Liverpool:
Diego Maradona (Argentinean football legend): "Even the Brazil team that won the 1970 World Cup could not have staged a comeback with Milan leading 3-0."
Diego Maradona: "The English club proved that miracles really do exist. I've now made Liverpool my English team. They showed that football is the most beautiful sport of all. You knew they could defend but the team showed they could play too and wrote a page in the history books. The match will last forever. The Liverpool supporters didn't let me go to sleep the night before. There were 10 of them to every three Milan supporters. They showed their unconditional support at half-time when they were losing 3-0 and still they didn't stop singing. They are the second best set of fans in the world after Boca Juniors"
Johan Cruyff (Dutch football legend): "There's not one club in Europe with an anthem like You'll Never Walk Alone. There's not one club in the world so united with the fans. I sat there watching the Liverpool fans and they sent shivers down my spine. A mass of 40,000 people became one force behind their team. That's something not many teams have. For that I admire Liverpool more than anything."
Jimmy Greaves (Tottenham legend and recovering alcoholic): I've played at Anfield on numerous occasions, and there's nothing quite like hearing the kop sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" It never fails to send shivers down my spine.

Posted - 22/09/2006 : 11:52:19 Smithy to be honest I was shocked to see that there hasn’t been a post on this forum for over two months and as there is nothing really to discuss with regards Spurs and city so I thought I would generate some discussion about the most successful club in England who happen to have the best and most knowledgeable fans! |

Heres a piece from Nuts magazine.
Liverpool were today unveiled as England’s most popular team amongst rival fans in a poll conducted by a national men’s magazine. Weekly magazine Nuts commissioned the poll to try and find out who the country's football fans considered their second favourite club behind their own team. The results made interesting reading with 15% of all those asked revealing Liverpool would be their 'second' team or the club they'd most like to achieve success after their own side. Liverpool topped the pool by a clear 5% with West Ham United and Wigan coming in second and third respectively. Aston Villa finished bottom of the Premiership popularity table with Arsenal and Chelsea completing the relegation places. "Liverpool have provided a huge amount of entertainment, over the last year or so starting with the Champions League win and culminating in the stunning Steven Gerrard goal in the FA Cup Final," explains Gershon Portnoi, the Nuts Sports Editor. "I think The Toon's popularity may have taken a dip during Graeme Souness' time at the helm. It's great to see Wigan and West Ham up there. Everyone loves an underdog and they certainly entertained and gave many of the bigger clubs a scare last season." The Premiership Popularity Table in full 1. Liverpool: 15% 2. West Ham: 10% 3. Wigan: 9% 4. Newcastle: 8.5% 5. Tottenham Hotspur: 7% 6. Bolton: 7% 7. Charlton: 6% 8. Manchester United: 6% 9. Portsmouth: 5% 10. Manchester City: 4% 11. Watford: 3.5% 12. Reading: 3.5% 13. Everton: 3% 14. Fulham: 3% 15. Blackburn 3% 16. Sheffield United: 2.5% 17. Middlesbrough: 2.5% 18. Chelsea: 2% 19. Arsenal: 1.5% 20. Aston Villa: 1%

Posted - 22/09/2006 : 11:41:28 Respect to Thierry. He obviously appreciates the greatest supporters in the world.
On a side note, i was listening to the Liverpool v Newcastle commentary, and Graham Taylor was saying that he thought Liverpool fans were the most knowledgable fans about football in England.
I must say i have to agree! |
