Tracksuit Manager
Posted - 13/12/2006 : 11:29:26 The Nailsea Glasshouse returned to league action and chalked up a further 3 points in a 6-1 victory after a mornings hard work. Kick off was delayed with James Lee snapping off a key to the changing rooms, and Sammo calling a Carpenter to do the job of a Locksmith, but finally the game got underway.
The Tern Inn hadn't turned up just to turn in 3 points, they turned up to battle and turn in a performance in return for 3 points for Tern Inn.
With the away team applying early pressure the Glass defence of Sampson, Brownie, Roberts and Ling stood strong and offered their keeper steel-like protection whilst the midfield set about creating chances for the Glass front two. It wasn't long until Jammer had broken the dead-'lock', but it was a contentious decision that led to goal number two. With an Oatway cross appearing to have drifted out Jammer put it in the net at the far post, and with the linesman not flagging for a goal kick the referee was given no option but to give the dubious goal, but a goal it was. Tonkin was working tirelessly upfront and had a fine opening 45 minutes, and with Stu Lee running proceedings in midfield it wasn't long until the 2 of them combined to set up Jammer for his first half hatrick and play Brown in for his 3rd goal in as many games in off the right touchline.
The teams turned round at half time and the Tern Inn were looking to turn the tide and turn in a 2nd half performance, hoping the Tern could turn the corner, but it wasn't to be Tern's turn to dominate.
Stuey Lee's first half performance was class, but his 2nd half was 'top class', and he truly was a one man show in midfield. The Tern Inn legs were no match for his energetic youthful pins, and with Cook in buzzing form alongside and the slope in the Glasshouse favour the 2nd half was one way traffic. Jammer scored his 4th of the morning and Stu scored the goal of the game as he cut through and sidestepped several Tern players before rolling the ball into the bottom corner, the grace of Georgie Best, but the drinking temperament of BA Baracas. The Glasshouse were dominant, and really should have added to their tally with many a chance spurned, apparently the ball was awkward said Sam, but the last time I checked it was certainly still round. Tracey and Ben were introduced to add some fire to the belly but the Glass still lacked composure in front of goal, and the closest they came to adding the 7th was a strike just off the BBQ from Tracey, a real sausage sizzler! - but unfortunately an outstretched keeper hand turned it over the bar.
The Glass go into the xmas break having only dropped 2 league points and mustering up an impressive goal difference, but the concern for the manager now will be keeping a big squad happy and getting more players to chip in with the goals. The medical room is over-run with, Turner, Smith, Cook, Horton, Long, Watts, and recent mumblings have been that there may be a player or two leaving through the exit doors in the January transfer window. The Royal Oak are leading the chase to sign golden veteran Barry Sampson, who is not happy with being rested after a heavy fixture load, but is the offer of a scarecrow in exchange enough to tempt the manager???
