In preparation for Sunday's chaos, can anyone remember what you had to press on your keyboard to re-send information last year, after you had filled in your details and sent them and then the page crashed? Think it was CTRL-something?

Just looking through some old files and found the letter I wrote on the morning of April 2nd last year! Here it is for your entertainment, and in hope that a similar one is not needed this year!

Dear Mr Eavis,

I am writing to express my feelings with regards to the sales of tickets for the 2004 Glastonbury Festival.

I have been attending the festival since 1997, and each year have purchased tickets on the day they go on sale. In none of these previous years have I experienced anything like the situation last night, which can only be described as a shambolic farce.

Like all festival goers I welcome the efforts that have been made this year to ensure that tickets go to genuine customers and not ticket touts. However, the consequences of these measures have been proven to be to preventative, and may even exacerbate the problem they were intended to solve.

8pm opening of ticket lines

I do not believe this measure will have had any effect in dissuading touts. By putting tickets on sale when the greatest number of people had opportunity to buy them inevitably meant increased traffic into the ticket agents, which they were clearly unequipped to deal with. The main consequence of this policy was to reward those who were able to stay up all night attempting to purchase tickets.

Sale of 2 tickets per transaction

Whilst this can be recognized as an effective means of stopping bulk-buying, it essentially doubled the number of transactions required to sell the tickets. Again, it appears that the ticket agent simply was not equipped to cope with this situation.

Use of only one ticket agent

This idea was disastrous! The telephone and internet capacity of this company was simply too low. It may well be that it is unfeasible for any one company to offer a greater capacity, but if the burden had been spread between a number of companies the whole process would have been far more efficient. Prior to this year I have always purchased my ticket from the Bristol Ticket Shop, who have always handled the transaction impeccably, and it seems to have been a very unwise move to cease using additional ticket agents.

Configuration of Aloud.com website

The design of the website was such that after orders were placed, an error message was usually received. This was the case even when the order was actual received and processed. Therefore people were unaware that their purchase had been successful, and continued attempting to purchase tickets, thus continuing to place strain on the website. This particular problem led to myself, and I imagine many others, inadvertently purchasing an unwanted additional pair of tickets, unaware of the success of a previous attempt. I hastily contacted aloud to notify them of the problem, and requested cancellation of the second transaction. I am awaiting confirmation of this.

In summary, I would urge you to take consideration of the points raised above, and conduct a thorough review of the way tickets are sold for next year’s festival. The system may have been successful in stopping the touts, that remains to be proved, but it has certainly caused a great deal of anguish to the vast majority of festival-goers, and undoubtedly prevented many people from attending in spite of their efforts to buy tickets.

In spite of the above, I wish you all the best for this year’s festival, and hope that the last weekend in June proves to be far more enjoyable than the previous 12 hours.

I understand that the system has been altered this year, so once you are in then it should be no problem proceeding through and buying the ticket. In other words it will be a nightmare trying to get on the site, but once you are in it should be stress free! Of course what aloud say and what is true is usually miles apart so I hold little confidence in this, but would be nice if its true! If it is, then perhaps if you log on to the site on Saturday night and just leave the link active then you could be straight in, or would that just be too easy?

Not quite sure what you mean, maybe ctrl-m (resends a request) and ctrl-n (I think opens a new window with your forms filled).

Nah thats not what i mean, that just brings up the original page again. There was something else you could do that efestivals started recommending late into the night, you could actually keep re-sending the details you had submitted rather than type them in each time. Once i started doing this i got the tickets shortly after (not sure if this was just co-incidence, but id like to try it again).

What do you mean the print has worn off your button? It only took you 10 minutes to get tickets didn't it?
