Welcome to the forum Steve and cheers for the link, managed to listen to a few songs last night and have already learnt all the lyrics to "Cider Cider Cider".
What happened to the Wazzuks? Are they still going, I never got to see them but they sound good.

Churz me babber..
Careful of that song.. the 'lyrics' take an unexpected twist toward the end that can catch ee unawares if you've had a skinful ;)
The Wazzuks were a side project for Chaos UK (an internationally renowned Bristol punk band of the late 80's and 90's) who were on a mission to get EMI to reconsider releasing all of Adge Cutler's Wurzel recordings on CD. (I've done this for myself from my own vinyl)
Anyhoo... I did see 'em a couple of times in 2000, and I've still got the "sing-a-long" lyric sheets from the Reckless Engineer gig.
I've fairly recently picked up a bootleg of the their gig at the Florikan & Firkin, I'll post up the song list.. but it's all Adge's stuff.
Anyhoo.. as far as I'm aware they stopped doing Wazzuk stuff in 2000 and Chaos in various guises continued until their last gig (allegedly) in 2005 in the Hatchets, Bristol.
However... I did hear a rumour that they maybe reforming the Wazzuks, but it is just a rumour.. but if there's any news on that I'll probably get to hear about it, so I'll let ee know.
Skip through the punky songs if you don't like 'em on the jukebox and checkout "Farmyard Boogie" and a couple of other tracks on the end.
The Surfin' Turnips are about to release their latest album which will be full of cider songs and local stuff, I'll let you know when it's out if yer interested, it'll be cheap enuff ;)
One last thing which , we did a "Cider Olympics" early on the year (2005).. on a small scale, for a larf.. all contestants had to drink 4 pints of Thatchers Traditional before they could enter, then we piled over the downs for the events (and more drinking of the holy apple.) including "Flaggon Flingling" and "the Marrow Thong" and other weirdness :) Rumour had it it will be a bigger event this year.. but again unconfirmed as yet.
Check out the photo's of the Cider Olympics if yer interested by scrolling down @ http://spaces.msn.com/punkphotos/

Cheers Steve, I saw Chaos UK do a gig with The Wurzels about ten years ago at Bristol University Anson Rooms, generally cant remember a great deal about it apart from there was as wide a variety of people there as there was in the bands playing, and it was a good night.
The cider olympics sounds like a great idea, tho i cant open that link to see the photos on this PC. If you do an event this year and dont mind sending us some photos we'll stick em on the website, as these are the type of events we like to provide coverage of.

That must have been an "interesting" gig.. I dunno how I managed to miss it!! ...gutted.
The original venue for the Cider Olympics was going to be the Blue Flame in Nailsea funnily enough, but they plumped for the Beaufort Arms next to the Clifton Downs in the end.. a nice pub too.
Its a shame you can't see the photos, but to be honest they barely do the event justice we were all wetting ourselves with laughter it was hilarious
I think there's a couple of photos in there of the Wassail at Wilkins Cider Farm, in Mudgley back in January which was also a great event.
Churz fer now. § |

I am indeedy.. I'm all booked up.. I'll probally be bringing a few extra gallons of ye ol' Ben Crossmans up with me too to enlighten a few Northerners where possible
There's some photos in the my old photo archive of the last King Kurt gig in Bristol.. and last years Wasted (HITS) too.. yer tis.. http://spaces.msn.com/members/alchemisthq/ down the bottom .
When 'Demented Are Go' played in Bristol.. I managed to get a hold of the mic and gave a quick rendition of "Cider, Cider, Cider".. to get 'em back for an encore, and fair play.. they came back on pissing themselves and Sparky did a rendition of "Combine Harvester" kind of mixed in with "Whoops upside yer head" psychobilly style... bloody hilarious it wer , and when I saw 'em down in Torquay last they did a repeat performance especially for me, the Torquay ladz luvved it
I don't know what the Thatchers was they were drinking down there.. the pumps are always marked "Thatchers Dry",and they sell it in quite a few pubs, it's not on their website as far I can see.. http://www.thatcherscider.co.uk/draught.htm so I suspect it's Thatchers Gold... mind you it's nothing to write home about.. its probably on a par with Stowford Press or similar, it's nothing great, but perhaps someone here can enlighten me.

You have my sympathies for knowing that lot
It is a bloody small world and getting smaller by the looks of it!!
How will they know you if I mention it?
I'm in a self-catering place, virtually next door to the venue...
Cum and say hello if you see me dossing around Garry We might get to share a flaggon if your not driving.
I'm looking forward to Wasted.. it's a shame it's the last 'un (allegedly).. I do look forward to the trek up north each year.

The face looks familiar Garry, if I squint with me good eye and add a bit of water to this pint and look through it.. I'd swear you're the guy who borried a fiver from me and legged it
Talking of Peter, I can still see his cheeky schoolboy grin in my minds eye from last weeks gig. (apparantly he didn't make it on stage at the cardiff gig the night before, he was so out of his box)
The self-catering place is costing £130 fer 5 nights (sleeps4).. thats £26pn or as I'm with me missus.. £13pp/pn, which is pretty cheap considering how close it is to the venue.. but the fleas probably wear hobnailed boots.. and the cockroaches would make Watty run out of the place in terror (I haven't clue what its going to be like to be honest.)
All I will say is, if yer thinking of going down that route, we tried about five self catering gaffs close to the venue, all of them were fully booked for the Wasted weekend, and we cadged the last two rooms in that gaff, so they're going fast.
I'm a Bemmi Down lad meself, currently residing on the Knowle/Bemmi border.. I only found out after the Peter gig that your pal Andy is virtually our neighbour (we gave him and his missus a lift home)... so we're thinking about moving now!! small world eh!!

Is that picture of Johnny Rotten and Mr Wilkins really real?! If so, could we borrow it for our celebrity cider drinkers page please?

It certainly is a genuine photo.. of a photo.. and he had some blurb on Joe Strummer there too, it would probably be worth another visit just to see what else he had there, as there's lots of stuff tucked away in corners in his barns.
..and of course you'll have to sample his cider, and maybe force a cheese roll down too.
The photo was for something Johnny was doing with Belgium TV, I haven't a clue what though.
