It looks like the website for this year is tentatively up and running.. http://www.gdsf.co.uk/
I thought it was worth mentioning here, for those that don't know it, and might like this kind of thing.. I've been going for the past four years or so.. it is massive, 600 acres of showground plus camping.. you cannot get around this event in one day, two days and you'll probably see most of it.
Items of main interest here probably, include..
Cider stalls.. I didn't get around them all, but there was proper job cider from Yeovil, Taunton, Devon, the New Forest and Hereford from memory most selling mulled cider as well as the traditional sweet, medium, dry, the seating there is usually supplied by hay bales. (and Ben Crossman from Hewish did tell me he had someone selling his down cider there too, but I couldn't find it!!, luckily I brought my own  )
I think there's something like five marquees providing music from a good variety of genres.. from folk to rock, and if you can get the day right, our very own West Country legends the Wurzels usually make an appearance playing to a couple of thousand people jammed into the main marquee. (Dr Busker is worth a look.. although he is a beer fanatic http://www.doctorbusker.com )
... and there's some steam engines too

I've heard about this before (from looking at Wurzels gig listings i think) but i don't think its been mentioned on the forum so cheers for the link.
It does look fantastic, and id like to go, will have to see if im in the country at the time. Not sure if the Wurzels are playing this year, I heard they weren't booking anymore gigs cos Tommy Banner is quite ill at the moment - we saw them play at a charity gig in Nailsea last week and he didn't appear but Pete Budd gave the crowd the good news that he was getting better.

Photos can't ever do the festival justice, it's huge, it's the sounds, the smells, the cider, the music.. all kind of intermingle in an almost surreal intermingling of past and present. It's gert lush
I saw them play down at the Ship & Castle (Taunton Traditional on draught) in Brizzle without Tommy, I thought they did a good job without him.. aided by the City fans obviously!!.. but certainly it weren't quite the same without Tommy doing his strip and banter.

I hope Tommy gets well soon, they fill the main marquee at the steam festival each time they play, it's like the icing on the cake for me. I'll guess its a wait and see situation.. but there's tons of other stuff there.. even if it's just chilling on hay bale.. with yer pint of scrump watching the steam engines lit up at night, chuffing away, on a warm summers evening, there are very few greater pleasures in life.

It was there last year.. and before that as well.. so I would assume it will be there again, but I couldn't tell you if it was going to be its only outing.
The bus did a cider from around the Taunton area from memory, which was pretty nice.. the New Forest offering came tops in my estimation, from the apple offerings I got to taste.

Ah.. that looks like the bus.. and very nice it wer too.
According too.. http://www.thewurzels.net they will indeed be playing the Dorset Steam Rally on Thursday 31st August, I will be there  
"Wurzels.. Cider Army!!"

Does that really say they are playing Bath Cats And Dogs Home?!?!? Must be one of the strangest audiences they've played to since Portishead carnival.
Lyndey on a saturday night looks quite cider-tastic too.

Yes, they played there last year, it's for charity to support the dogs & cats home.
Actually I think the Kent MotorBike Show was probably one of the strangest venues for the Wurzels.. they did a couple of bike shows a few years back.
There wer some rather bemused reviews of those gigs.. I could only find one in googles cache..

Cider I up .. tis time fer the Dorset Steam Fair.. I'll be down there to see the Wurzels on Thursday... camping is £10ish per night.. plenty of proper job ciders.
Don't miss it.. it be gert lush.
