"First tickets for Glastonbury 2007 sold

A Premiership football manager books his place at Worthy Farm
11 minutes ago
The first tickets for this year's Glastonbury Festival were sold last night (March 20) - and were snapped up by a Premiership football manager.

Bolton Wanderers' boss Sam Allardyce is heading to Worthy Farm to see the likes of Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and The Who, after the buying a VIP package for the festival in a charity auction.

Allardyce purchased the tickets at HMV Football Extraganza held in London in aid of the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy charity.

The evening, which honoured the career of striker Teddy Sheringham, was attended by a host of football stars - and is the sister event of the Silver Clef lunch which annually honours musicians.

The Bolton boss was initially unsuccessful in buying the VIP package - which includes access to the festival, helicopter flights in and out plus access to an exclusive campsite - losing out to the winning bid of £10,500.

However organisers then arranged for a second package if Allardyce was prepared to match the winning bid, which he did, booking his place at this year's festival.

For those not fortunate enough to manage a top flight football team, regular tickets for the festival go on sale at 9am on April 1 - though would-be festival goers had to register in advance to be eligible to buy tickets.

The festival takes place between June 22-24."
