The Ashton Court Festival is 30 this year - it's grown up - and 2004 sees some 'grown up' acts playing the community event. The Stranglers (also celebrating the big 30 this year) will headline during the big weekend (17/18 July) which will see 120,000 taking in the unique atmosphere at Ashton Court Estate. On Sunday, Mercury Prize-winner, Bristol's own Roni Size, will play a rare live set on the Orange Main Stage and former Squeeze front man Glenn Tillbrook will play Squeeze classics and new material on the Amphitheatre Stage.
Also among the 150 acts strutting their stuff will be Goldie Lookin' Chain - not very grown up but plenty of 'adult content' there!
Other local talent will include Bristol-based dance act Way Out West, plus local favourites Chikinki and Babyhead.
Festival organiser, Steve Hunt, said: "It's always exciting to bring together such a wide range of music and arts and to see so many people from local communities in one place.
"After 30 years, the festival has matured into an essential event in the South West music calendar and this year is set to be another great weekend at Ashton Court."
And it's not just music on offer to tempt the senses - the Blackout Marquee will be showing audio-visual treats and there will be the usual plethora of food and craft stalls selling their wares.
With its roots still firmly in the community, the festival still has a thriving kids area and a Global Stage which will showcase a mix of world music.
Having sponsors Orange on board once more brings the benefit of phone charging areas and the opportunity to try out interactive mobile technology including how to be a DJ with your phone.
The event costs £5 a day for adults and is free for under 14s. Limited on-site parking passes can be bought from Bristol Ticket Shop.

Blackbud were quality at Glasto, hope we're back in time to see them. Not quite sure how the Stranglers are playing after Roni Size, obviously Sil has been up to something! Not around for the Saturday, but saw GLC at Glasto too, the problem is they are only funny becasue of their lyrics, and if you can't make out what they're saying through a combination of muffled sound and their Welshness then it's just any other rap group.

Think it might be something to do with their 30yr history and the fact they have sold lots of records........

Think Roni Size probably has more fans in Bristol though. And the Stranglers are managed by a w*nker.
BlackBud have just signed a deal with Independiente Records, joining the likes of Travis there. I found this out from efestivals but won't put the link on as we have more than enough links to them already!
Could I suggest that the Forum administrator, who started this thread, move it to the West Country Music forum where it belongs?

Did anyone go then? Was it any good? Saw a little bit on the news, looked sunny and reasonably busy. Always strikes me as a waste when there's good weather at the one festival you can have a shower and your own warm bed each night, and that doesn't seem to ever get muddy.
