Weird (about Westons). I remember thinking how odd it was that locals preferred the Bulmers Bulmers Original to Westons Bulmers Original. Maybe it's that (IMO) Westons ciders tend to be thinner and drier (and nicer to my tastes), but they would be a bit odd to someone brought up on a sweeter, thicker cider.

What a night! I cant write much more than that now, but a full beer fest review and pictures of Dave Gorman will appear shortly...

Highlights included the Orchard's Kingston Black, which may have even been pressed by Tharg Drinker of Cider himself, if so - excellent work, it was delicious.

I'm glad you finally got to try the Kingston Black, it is nice isn't it? I didn't press that batch, but I did press most of last year's - I hope it's as good. We may be coming to Bristol in a few months time to sell at one of the farmer's markets, I'll keep you posted.

And you will know us by the trail of empties....

Yes it was very nice, it was one that I think we all agreed was good. A few of us preferred the very dry, earthy ciders, and a few of us liked the sweeter, easier to drink ones, but this seemed somewhere in between from what I remember (which could well be wrong), so it was a real crowd-pleaser!

Yes definitely let us know if you come to the Farmers Market, although we will probably see the stall anyway as the Market is a regular lunchtime haunt for me and Al!

I had about 8 pages of notes from the Festival, but predictably lost them later during the evening, but Im pretty sure Janets Jungle Juice was the first cider to sell out. We all agreed Abbis and Churns were completely horrible. Naish and Uren(pronounced "urine" by us, to hilarious effect) were my favourites. We were warned off Mr Whiteways Boxing Dog, but it was actually pretty good. I remember ordering Mynediad Ysbyty Crab & Dab, Oh Sir, Viard, Rathays Old Goat Balls Seedling(single varietal) and Reddaway Medium but cant remember what each one tasted like. Things got messy after Dave Gorman refused to serve us anything apart from his "cider cocktails" that he made by filling our glasses with shots of around 8 different ciders chosen at random (although he claimed he was using his expert knowledge to make something we would actually like, it didn't work - they were mostly terrible).

Next year im getting tickets for all 4 sessions.

That's the great thing about cider isn't it? There's enough variety out there to suit most tastes.

Nearly forgot, if we're name dropping I saw a bloke called Jeremy (can't remember his surname, he was in Casualty and Big Brother??) in Reading. The one who nobbed Rachel Stevens!! His Mum is fit.

We are not 100% sure it was the actual Dave Gorman, but it looked very much like him, and people were calling him "Dave" (come to think of it, that was only us). He was drinking cider (he wasn't supposed to be, he was supposed to be serving it), and he offered to sell us the left over barrels on Saturday night if we came along late!

Would be interested to hear whether this Jeremy bloke was drinking cider... does Rachel Stevens like cider-drinking men??
