New debate, the following players will be out of contract this summer, who should stay and who should go?

Lee Peacock - not sure
Christian Roberts - not sure
Mickey Bell - not sure
Matt Hill - keep
Louis Carey - keep
Joe Burnell - GO!
Tony Rougier - keep
Lee Matthews - GO!

Also is it time for DW to go? 3rd two seasons on the trot - he seems to lack that final edge and just doesn't seem to be able to motivate the players on the big occasion. Will he do it next season?

It costs nothing to love someone

There's a couple you missed off too by my reckoning...

Carey - stay
Hill - stay
Amankwaah – depends on fitness, 1 year contract?
Caskey – maybe keep if Tommy goes and Tins retires, depending on fitness
Burnell – would only consider keeping to playing in central defence, useless midfielder
A Brown– - stay- 1 year deal to make sure he doesn't get lazy again
Rougier – stay, if only because it gives the Rouge Groove page a longer shelf-life cos it took me ages
Peacock – GO. Works hard, and I'd feel sorry for him if he's released but he doesn't score enough to be main striker, can't be effective target man, and he's on stupid wages. Need replacement.
Roberts – stay. Shown in last few months what he can do with a few games. One of our only big-game players
M Brown – GO. Will be too far down pecking order to ever get a game.
L Matthews – GO(NE) already.
Bell - GO

D Wilson – GO. He did a great job for his first two years, but I can't see him taking us any further. Had much more cash to spend than any other 2nd Div manager this year, had a great squad already, and still couldn't get us out of by far the weakest Div 2 in years. Negative tactics, baffling selections and substitutions, failure to see the obvious, and failure to motivate players has cost us dearly. With lots of players out of contract and some others surely leaving it’s a great chance for a new man to come in and rebuild the team.

Sadly I also think we'll see:

Tommy D – GO
D Coles – GO

Carey – keep, not great but good enough.
Hill – keep.
Amankwaah – keep, in his situation he can hardly ask for big wages, and we might as well see what he can do.
Caskey – keep, if he’s cheap
Burnell – release
A Brown - keep
Rougier – keep, but never play up front again. Waterproof masks needed next time!
Peacock – release, we need to spend the wage money elsewhere
Roberts – keep, think next year is his year
M Brown – is he still there?!! Wasting his own time by staying, has to go elsewhere for first team football.
L Matthews – Has worn a Rovers shirt, so should never be allowed back into the dressing room.
Bell – depends on his wages, but I wouldn’t spend much on keeping him.
Doherty – we should try as hard as we can to keep him, but we’re still 2 divisions below teams now interested in him, it’s out of our hands if he chooses to go, and we can’t blame him.
Coles – I think he can be persuaded to stay, giving away that pen will have knocked his confidence and he would be nervous of leaving now I think.

D Wilson – Keep, to be sacked immediately if we don’t go up next season. He has made errors, I think he wasted £600k on Miller when we needed a more proven striker, his love of Peacock is embarrassing, and none of Wilkshire, Murray or Goodfellow have been successful signings. When he puts out an attacking line-up we look the best team in the league, what he must stop is resorting to defensive tactics just because the opposition won’t attack us (Sunday just the latest example). But I think he still can get us up, and just as important I think we’d struggle to get anyone better.

Carey - Stay
Hill - Stay
Peacock - Go
Roberts - Not Sure
Hill - Stay
Matthews - Go (forever and never come back, Gashead scum)
Burnell - Stay (need a holding midfield for when we lose Doc & we will)
Rougier - Stay
Caskey - Stay (to replace Tin Man when he quits and starts coaching)
Amankwaah - Stay
A Brown - Stay
M Brown Go
Bell - Stay (did a great job in the Res with the youngsters and can do a job)
Coles - Someone will come and get him from higher Div.

Wilson - STAY.

Name one manager who is gonna do any better than him. We have been here before and messed it all up. Remember Ward and then that muppett from celand or wherever he was from. Wilson has done a great job since he has come in and should be given another chance.
Yeah it was a weak division but not the top three/four and that was the most important point. Everyone knows the rules at the start of the season and if we can't get in the top two then it would be a lottery of the play offs and so it turned out to be. We did well against the top six sides but couldn't finish off the lower ides hence our 3rd place finish. This was the difference between us and Plymouth/QPR. They could finish them off.
Even when we put that record breaking run togther it only just put us top which shows how good the top three were.

With a bit of wheeling and dealing i'm sure Wilson will have us in Div 1 next year.

Haven't seen enough of the boys year to comment really but I think it's probably time for Danny to seek pastures new. We've proved this year and last that it's not that we're not good enough to go up, just that we can't perform consistently over a season or in the big games. That's twice in two years now that we've lost in the playoffs to a team that haven't beaten us in the regular season. Slow starts to both seasons have made it an uphill struggle to catch the leaders. Whatever his methods are they clearly don't work well enough. For anyone who didn't see the Sky coverage they said that we were the nearly men of division 2 and the best footballing side in the league as well which just about sums us up. I think its time that Wilson leaves while he is still in relatively good favour and will be well remembered by the fans. we need someone with a few new ideas needs to give it a go.

Wilson - Go

What an absolute disaster, inevitable really that Peacock would be kept as Wilson sees something in him the rest of us can't, but retaining Bell & Burnell is just wasting money, even if Tommy goes we need a new signing not Burnell.
The Rouge is unlucky, he's been our most creative player when he hasn't been stuck up front, probably why Wilson wants rid of him. Caskey, Matthews and M Brown no real option as Wilson obviously doesn't rate any of them, don't even know who Scott Brown is.

I feel totally, totally gutted now after today's announcements, much more so than I was on Sunday. The retained/released lists are conclusive proof that Wilson has lost the plot and should GO – and as many of you know I don't easily get the backs of managers just because a few things go wrong. Wilson did a brilliant job in his first few years here, helping the club recover from the devastation caused by Pulis, and I was pleased when he signed a new deal last year because I thought he was making steady progress – but since then he has completely lost the plot and been taking us backwards.

His negative defensive tactics with players played out of position and his failure to play anyone who can score goals has meant we have failed to turn over the p!ss-poor teams that have made up this terrible division over the last year. We have also had to put up with some of the most boring football ive ever seen. Presumably he guaranteed our board that he could gain promotion if he was given the funds of almost £1million he's spent this year – but he's FAILED (despite his stupid comments about this season not being a failure after Sunday's game), and why he is still in a job I don't know. Plymouth and QPR are nothing special, neither started winning games til October and they’ve both been on losing streaks, but we have failed to capitalise despite the players we have and the money weve spent – it's gotta come back to the managers.

The decisions announced today prove he hasn't got a clue – Peacock is useless, he did nothing for years and only got himself fit and started putting in hard working performances this season cos his City career was rightly under threat with his contract due to expire – and still he only managed 16 goals from 113 shots despite playing 90 minutes of virtually every game. He has been incapable of forming an effective partnership with anyone else weve tried up front with him. He needs to move on and free up wages for the proven goalscorer we have been crying out for. Burnell IS NOT a midfielder – if Wilson thinks he is an adequate replacement for Tommy if he leaves then we are in big trouble. I like Burnell, and think he could be a good defender in the 2nd Div (although we have lots of these so we don't need him), but he can't pass forwards, score or create anything so why play him in midfield? Bell has served us well but is past it – he has lost his pace and shooting, we have cover at left back and left wing and I can't believe he's staying. Im not too surprised about the Rouge decision, I couldn't see us offering him what he wanted – he's 32 and we have cover in the positions he plays in. Obviously Im sad to see him go though, cos he seems like a great player to have around the club and he brought some much needed flair, passion and comedy (often unintended) to Ashton Gate these last few weeks. Good luck to him wherever God takes him next.

The fact that Wilson is still here, and the players he wants to retain just suggests to me that we are in store for another season of boring, crap football where we gain nothing. If Tommy D goes we are really, really in trouble. This is a bad day for City.

I dont think that you can lay all the blame at wilsons door.....yes he played the wrong tactics in the final, but lets be fair I also would say that every player on that pitch (except tommy doc) was rubbish...there was no heart or passion in that performance.....wilson has got u playing some very good and atractive football, u need to get of his back and give him 1 more season....

I share these thoughts but am still in two minds, scared that it will get even worse if he went. I have always thought that he would be good for Div 1 (if we ever get there) I can't see them sacking him and he would have resigned by now if that was on his mind. He will be sacked next year if we don't do it (or if it don't look good around xmas time).

It will be interesting to see if any player refuses the new contract, if city have chopped the wages that much.

We need a new structure (have we become to predictable again) the fact we have not had a penalty all season and have only scored more than one goal in 17 games (out of 56, 2 of those against lower opposition in cups and 7 of these came when we hit top form in the 11 straight win run)we are just not in the box enough. We can pass it around all day long but need the skill in the final third and if we had that we could be some team.

Would not surprise me if we lost 2 players this summer maybe 3.

Roberts - Stay
Peacock - Go
Rougier - Stay
A Brown - Stay
M Brown - Go
L Matthews Go
Bell - Stay for a year on reduced wage
Amankwah - Stay
Burnell - Has to go is the worst player in the league, don't talk such crap T-man even fortune is better than Buirnell in midfield.

DW - Difficult one, stay for one more season, give people like Murray, Goodfellow, Caskey and Rougier a chance to shine. Needs to play attacking football.

Gillespie to set the world alight next season.

giving wilson another season is a mistake, last year most city fans said give him another year, well we have and still no change, saying he got us playing nice football is a joke there is only a handfull of games worth the admision fee. this year he has managed to spend over half a million pound and made the team worse, a change of tactics is a must we play far to deep.
It took wilson nearly 3 months to realise burnell is poote, and doesn't deserve his place in the team but now he gives him a contract and lets the roug leave.

signing gillespie is a good start but wilson will not play him, according to DW lita is not ready for the first team forget all the goals he scores in the reserves and the impressive performances he has shown coming on. :asshole::asshole:
