It's arrived, the westons van came this morining the driver told the barrell smugler "this is nice has well this is, brand new"
It's in the fridge chilling.....am I excited or what . |

Well had the pleasure of downing a few Weston’s Stowford LC last night whilst watching Dutch v Germans.
It's a light coloured dry cider and is a very refreshing drink but... as expected with a low cal/carb drink something has to give. You can still get the slight oak taste from it but it misses the twang. Twang!!! well hard to explain but you know that after taste when your tongue hits the top of your mouth (maybe you don't but trying to explain a taste is harder than I thought) and you suck out the taste, this just goes down and that’s it. But at 5% this does the job and supplements well if you’re on a diet so would recommend it for that. Making a drink with those low values must be hard (especially when it's cider) so well done to Weston’s 7/10.

Sounds slightly dissappointing, but as we didnt even think a low-carb cider existed a few weeks ago I suppose this is a better option than not drinking cider at all. I know what you mean about the after-taste, perhaps you should pass the comments on to Westons - if its a new product they may be grateful of the feedback and send you a free crate or something?!
As far as i know it's the first low-carb cider thats been produced so it sounds pretty good as a first attempt. Another interesting indication of where Westons see the future of cider maybe... a more civilised dinner-table drink?

“During the reign of Charles II, there were more licensed cider-houses than ale-houses in London, and Herefordshire cider was more expensive than any imported wine except Chateau Haut Brion. The ascendancy of Herefordshire cider was due in the main to the Redstreak cider apple developed at Lord Scudamore’s estate at Holme Lacy. Unfortunately it is now a rare apple, and in fact the variety may no longer exist. There is a Somerset Redstreak cider available from Thatcher’s and one or two others, but, although delicious, it is not the same variety.”

I’d like to think that there will be renewed interest in cider, and it will be the drink of the future. Maybe Weston’s are jumping on the Atkins’ bandwagon, and good luck to them, they’re in business after all.

Yes. Just wait until we start to see SE1 cider being sold at £500 a bottle on the black market next year 
In fact, it's not as bloody daft as it sounds. I'm sure that with the right (anti-)marketing, we can scam some of our local yuppies.
In fact, I wonder whether we should try and get a bit of publicity???? IMO it takes so little to get written about as London's latest trend that with a bit of applied trickery we could easily get into the Standard.

Results of trials show high levels of antioxidants in cider!
Drinking cider may be good for your health, according to the results of trials which prove a glass of cider is rich in health improving antioxidants
.
The old adage - an apple a day keeps the doctor away - now also applies to a drop of cider, made form fermenting apple juice.
Cider, one of England's oldest alcoholic drinks, has long been thought to be beneficial to health, but there was never any proof. Now scientists at Brewing Research International have confirmed high levels of health enhancing antioxidants in cider, on par with red wine, a drink long recognised as having health benefits. A half pint of cider delivers the same amount of antioxidants as a glass of red wine.
Further trials on volunteer cider drinkers at the Institute of Food Research, Norwich, details of which are published in the latest edition of the scientific Journal of Nutrition also establishes the antioxidants are rapidly absorbed into the blood stream, enhancing the health benefit.
Commenting on the research work, Dr Caroline Walker, a scientist at Brewing Research International, said "A diet rich in antioxidants may help to protect against disease, and our research confirms cider has the same levels of antioxidants as red wine.
"It is clear that cider has a good dose of antioxidants, and as nutritionists recommend a healthy diet should include plenty of antioxidants it could well be claimed that a glass of cider a day will keep the doctor away!!
"For those who enjoy a glass of cider it is reassuring to know it may be healthy, too.
"But it is important that no-one drinks more than the recommended daily intake of alcohol, which for women is 2 to 3 units per day and for men, 30 to 40 units, an average cider having
about 0.25 units per pint."
John Thatcher, of Sandford in Somerset, Chairman of the National Association of Cider Makers, said "I have spent a lifetime making cider, enjoying a regular glass or two, and now I can enjoy it all the more knowing it is helping to keep me health."
He added "We have known for centuries that cider in moderation was good for you and it will be helpful to consumers to have this scientific confirmation."

Excellent. I think I've read that before, in a leaflet I picked up at the shop at Thatchers.
Sad news about the v small recommended volumes though. Surely the more antioxidants the better??? |
