Is there such a thing? Cus I'm a fat bastard (put on loads after giving up smoking) I need to go on a diet. I've choosen one of these low carb diets which means no cider for 2-3 weeks .

It's now day 4 and I've got a sweat on, what is the carb count in cider's, maybe if I don't eat all week I could have some.

Ive never heard of a diet cider, not by any decent producers anyway, but all proper cider is good for you.

When you get dieting booklets they seem to base their stats on the mass produced fizzy crap full of artificial things and sugar, Real cider is much healthier, its just apple juice really. The drier ciders would be better for a diet than the sweeter ones i'd guess - less sugar. But i'd have a look at the labels of the Westons Old Rosie and Thatchers Mendip in Sainsburys, you might be nicely surprised!

Im not holding out much hope of finding a decent cider saturday night tho.

A good diet would be drink about 10 pints of Exhibition, this will leave you unconscious and so unable to purchase kebab and chips on the way home, reducing the weekend calorie intake by approximately 100,000.
But as Gents says there can't be much wrong with real cider, as after all it is just squashed apples.
Ciders with a particularly low sugar content are probably the healthiest....HMZ!

New marketing slogan, "Drink HMZ stay thin", think it'll catch on?

There is an apple called slack ma girdle (so called because it was supposed to keep you thin), so you might be able to pretend that all the cider you drink is made of that.

Also, try giving Thatchers a call. I picked up a good leaflet from there at the weekend, all about the health benefits of cider. Can't remember whether it talked about calories, but it might be worth giving them a call.

Cider has a high calorific count, not because of the sugar, but because of the alcohol content. The stronger the cider, the higher the calories. At 4 stone heavier than I am now,I was incredibly lardy a few years ago, I had to make a few adjustments to my diet, not just to lose weight, but also to maintain it. I certainly had to eat more sensibly and drink less (sorry, but it's true) and increase my exercise rate. It works, and it makes you feel better. I cut down on processed food (rammed with salt and sugar) cut down on fry-ups and late night curries, and got walking and cycling. It doesn't stop you from enjoying yourself, it just means I can't get rat-arsed every night of the week now.

And you will know us by the trail of empties....

I've looked on the bootles of cider and none have shown the content. Calories is not a problem it's carbohydrates I need to watch.

How the hell do you get this (measure this) info when the HMZ is hitting the shops. Suppose you send it to labs, what a job.

Here you go Chowie, diet cider! http://www.westons-cider.co.uk/acatalog/Westons_Cider_Low_Alcohol_Ciders_8.html in answer to the carbohydrate problem, I think it's the sugar that's the culprit, but as I say, alcohol has a very high calorific content.

Thanks Tharg, but I'll rather stick too diet coke rather than 1% cider. But on the same site they have the perfect answer.

http://www.westons-cider.co.uk/acatalog/index.html

BRAND NEW Low Carb Zider.

Perfect, If it's anything like stowford press it would be loverly. It's 5.0%, only 0.5g per 250ml, which means if I eat free food all day I could have 10000ml per day which is approx. 17 pints or 20 of those bottles. Wooohhoo.

You've made my day, who says you can't get sloshed on the atkins diet.

The forum just went down on me and in that time I've ordered 12, will post a review when arrives.

A really good diet cider is actually Tesco Value. Its reletively low in alcohol and its so vile that you won't want to drink it anyway :-)

Good luck with your diet Chowie, let us know how you get on, although I'm yet to be convinced as to the long term benefits of the Atkins diet. I can only tell you about my own experience: put less in, burn more off.

will keep you informed, I'm hoping it's not a cider to add to the vile list.

I also managed to give a little plug to this site, when ordering they asked where did you find this and so on, so I said it was from www.hannahmorezider.co.uk.

Maybe Westons will now try and buy us out? Or at least give us jobs!

Accountant Dog, get working out the present value of HMZ ltd., I feel an offer is imminent.
